Steamboating

Day 2: Steamboating

This is your time — a full day of blissful cruising — to fully experience all that your elegant ship and friendly crew hold in store. Relax, unwind and melt into the magic of the Mississippi.

Steamboating

Day 3: Steamboating

Settle into a rocking chair and just let the scenery glide by. Or join in the fun of our numerous onboard activities. Your full day of leisurely steamboating on the Mississippi River sets the tone for an unforgettable vacation

Henderson

Day 4: Henderson, Kentucky

Enjoy a leisurely stroll through Henderson, the hometown of famed naturalist John James Audubon. Reminders of his famous bird paintings are around every corner. See if you can find all eight of the town’s bronze bird statues. With a growing population, thriving downtown, historic turn-of-the-century mansions overlooking the river, and a recently renovated riverfront, Henderson exhibits the best qualities of an historic southern river town.

Steamboating

Day 5: Steamboating

The Great Waters of the Mississippi originate in the Rocky Mountains and the Appalachians and roll relentlessly to the Gulf of Mexico. This force of nature is your constant companion during a magical day of uninterrupted cruising.

Louisville

Day 6: Louisville, Kentucky

From its frontier founding at the time of the American Revolution, to the heyday of Steamboat transport in the early 19th century, through the city’s importance as a Union base during the Civil War, Louisville has always balanced a sense of history with an ability to re-invent itself as the city of originals.

Included Tour:  Board our Hop On-Hop Off Steamcoach for a narrated tour of attractions throughout the journey.  Places for you to sightsee include Louisville’s Visitor Center; boxing cultural attraction Muhammad Ali Center; Kentucky Museum of Arts and Crafts, which promotes the area’s rich crafts heritage; and the Louisville Slugger Bat Factory. For those with a taste for glass artwork or handmade candy, The Glass Work and Muth’s Candy Store are sensory delights. Your tour also includes the Frazier International Military Museum, home of the Royal Armouries USA.

Head down to Fourth Street Live for premier dining, entertainment and retail all in one place.

Premium Tour Options:

Premium Choice Tour #1 - Louisville Fast Horses, Food, and Fun

Depart from the boat this afternoon for our Louisville Fast Horses, Food, and Fun Tour. The culinary part of the tour begins at Lynn’s Paradise Café. Start with Paradise pancakes, a hot brown sandwich or a fried green tomato BLT, and end with a bourbon ball milkshake. The zany décor will have you smiling almost as much as the fine Southern food does!

Next, visit the Kentucky Derby Museum, where you’ll enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of the Barn and Backstretch area. Over 1,400 stalls dot the back of the track, and most are full during peak seasons. Keep your eyes open, because at any minute a 2-year-old thoroughbred could trot by, working his way up to next year’s Kentucky Derby.

For over 135 years, Louisville’s Churchill Downs has been home to the greatest two minutes in sports, the Kentucky Derby. At the Downs you’ll find the Kentucky Derby Museum, which chronicles the colorful history of the race.

There is one last thing before we leave: a short walk to the finish line of the famed Kentucky Derby, where you can take a great picture with the beautiful white twin spires in the background.

Madison

Day 7: Madison, Indiana

Tour family owned and operated businesses from Schroeder Saddletree Factory and the Madison Vineyard to Betty Mundt’s Candies. A stroll through town takes in the highlights of this beautiful city in southern Indiana.

Included Tour: Begin your visit to Madison’s antique powered machinery at the 19th-century Schroeder Saddletree Factory Museum. Then stop at the ornate Broadway Fountain, one of only four fountains of this style in the world. Enjoy a short tour of The Lanier Mansion, often referred to as the crown jewel of Madison’s historic district.

Shopping time at the Comfort Station! Later, return to your Steamcoach and visit the Thomas Family Winery for an evening of wine tasting and Celtic music.

Premium Tour Options:

Premium Choice Tour #1 - Historic Trades Tour

Discover early American art that is still a clever way to liven up your home!  Decorative floor cloths at Lanier State Historical Site go back as far as the 1400s in Europe, and came to grace the floors and hallways of rich and middle-class families in Europe, and later in America. Families could purchase these cloths from artisans, or make their own out of ship’s sails with geometric designs, hand-painted motifs or stenciled patterns. Widely popular until the mid-19th century, these durable works of art have come back into style several times.

Participants will learn the secrets behind making this easy home décor and take home their own placemat-sized creation to use or to frame.

Next stop: Schofield House. Built circa 1816, this was the first two-story tavern house in Madison. Inside, discover the secrets of cooking over an open hearth, and enjoy a bowl of duck stew—Indiana is home to the two largest duck processors in the country—served with homemade bread and a glass of traditional wine or Old World–style cider.

Finish with a visit to the Jeremiah Sullivan House. Judge Jeremiah Sullivan was a justice for the Indiana Supreme Court from 1836 to 1846 and is credited with naming Indianapolis. At this site, learn the art of candle making. Today, candles are a luxury, creating ambience at a dinner party or helping us relax during a bath. You’ll have the opportunity to experience two different candle-making techniques.

First, you will see a demonstration of candle dipping, a centuries-old technique that involves repeatedly dipping a strand of wick in melted wax. You’ll also have the opportunity to make your own candle by rolling beeswax.

(Includes Hands on Crafting of Floor Cloths & Beeswax Candles, TraditionalLunch with Wine or Cider, Dessert)
